The Lyon’s Den

The famous Imperial Crab Dip!

The famous Imperial Crab Dip!

It all started when…

I first made this crab dip in 1992. I worked for James Talley at the Memphis Bar and Grill on 18thStreet in Shockoe Bottom. Great owner, great spot! We started out as pretty decent restaurant but soon became a favorite bar spot. Despite the change, the crab dip remained a crowd favorite. I’ve altered the recipe slightly over the years and it is still a must-have item at all our venues and of course weddings and parties at "The Urban Roost".

A big shout out to James for a lot of amazing memories and for the introduction to the original crab dip. This recipe is really easy to make. But if you find yourself in a pinch, the The Urban Roost Catering department is ready to provide!

Imperial Crab Dip Recipe

-      1.5 Pounds Cream Cheese

-      2 cups Flaked Parmesan Cheese

-      1 Can Crab Meat (16 oz.)

-      1 Cup Artichoke Hearts

-      8 oz. Pickled Jalapeño

-      8 oz. Jalapeño Brine

-      Salt and Pepper to taste

1)   Place jalapeño and artichoke hearts in food processor and blend until fine chopped or chop by hand (not puréed)

2)   Cube cream cheese and place in a pot with artichoke, jalapeño mix and jalapeño brine

3)   Stir until hot, rich, and creamy!

4)   Add Crab Meat and Parmesan cheeses and stir for another 10-15 minutes

Bingo! There you have it - Imperial Crab Dip. I knew you could do it. This recipe serves about 8 people. Keep in mind they won’t leave it alone until it’s gone.
